DAVID'S BIRTHDAY!
Today was all about celebrating David, and it started with a leisurely morning. Koby and Bob took full advantage of the chance to sleep in, while David and Doug rose early to enjoy a hearty breakfast. The air was filled with laughter as we shared stories and anticipation for the day ahead.
After breakfast, we ventured to the Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater area, often referred to as one of nature’s greatest spectacles. The views were breathtaking, with the sprawling landscape dotted with wildlife. It felt surreal to be in such a vibrant ecosystem.
Next, we explored an incredible artisan market, “Safari Land,” known for its vast array of handmade crafts. We marveled at intricate carvings, colorful masks, beautiful jewelry, and striking statues. Each piece told a story, reflecting the rich culture of the region.
Back at the park, we spotted some amazing wildlife, including blue monkeys swinging through the trees and the unmistakable thick-faced baboons. One mother nursed her baby right on the side of the road. We also saw a variety of birds, from the elegant African quail to the bold and colorful hornbills.
After a two-hour drive back to the hotel, we returned to the Tulia Hotel in Arusha, where a mix-up with our room bookings briefly caused some concern. Luckily, it was sorted out quickly, and we were grateful to have our accommodations in order.
Once settled, we enjoyed some much-needed relaxation by the pool, raising our whiskey glasses in honor of David's birthday. We toasted with beers and sipped on some more Blanton’s whiskey.
As night fell, we gathered for a festive dinner filled with laughter, more drinks, and plenty of birthday drinks. The day wrapped up perfectly, and as we finally retired for the night, David and I slept like babies, our hearts full from a day spent celebrating life, friendship, and the successful summit of one of the most majestic mountains in the world, Mt. Kilimanjaro.
Cheers to a incredible trip!
